From health kit to facial masks, aromatherapy has ventured into our kitchen tables too. Not many chefs know the benefits of using essential oils in your daily menus. If you have a holiday plan or want to take a time out for yourself, what can be the best treat for yourself than making recipes using aromatherapy oils? This article will focus on essential oil food recipes that you can try at your home.

Essential oil food recipes: The following recipes use essential oils in the form of highly concentrated preservatives, fragrant/flavorings or hydrosols. Whatever be the case, use essential oils that are within therapeutic grade/food grade quality and ensure that you use them in the appropriate quantity.

1. Rose water German cookies: You will need the following ingredients for this recipe: 1 cup sugar, ½  cup room temperature butter, egg yolk, 1 ½ tbsp vanilla, 1 ½ tsp lemon extract or ½ cup sour cream, ½ tsp baking soda, 1 ½ tsp rose water or Rose Hydrosol, some salt and 3 cups of flour. Add cream sugar with softened butter and beat egg yolk and flavorings to smooth consistency. Next, add baking soda and sour cream into the sugar mixture. Add rose hydrosol, flour, salt and water. Batter the mixture and roll out on floored surface. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutter and bake at a heat of about 325 degrees in the oven.

The cookies thus made will carry a subtle rose flavor. If you want the rose flavor to be more pronounced, use rose otto too.

2. Peppermint Hot Chocolate: This recipe uses Peppermint oil to make hot chocolate with cream and sugar. The ingredients you may require: 1 ½ cups of heavy cream, 1 ½ cups of milk, ¼ cup sugar, 6 oz of bittersweet chocolate, 3 drops of Peppermint, whipped cream for garnish and candy canes. Use a saucepan to combine the ingredients – cream, milk, sugar and chocolate – and cook until the mixture begins to steam. Add 3 drops of Peppermint and blend well. Once the blending is complete, divide the chocolate into mugs and top it with whipped cream. If you want, add candy to each cup. This is a yummy recipe which will be the favorite of kids and adults.

3. Orange oil recipe: This recipe uses a lot of orange in the form of orange juice, blood orange essential oil etc. The following ingredients will be required to prepare this item – 1 cup of soft butter, 2 cups sifted confectioners sugar, 1 ¼ cup of unsifted flour, ¾ cup of corn starch, 3 tablespoons of orange juice and 3 drops of sweet orange or blood orange essential oil. To prepare the recipe, cream butter with essential oil and add ½ cup of confectioners sugar and beat until you get a fluffy consistency. Add flour and corn starch and batter everything. Cover and chill the whole thing for at least two hours. Then, roll out the dough into balls (of your desired shape) and bake in the oven for 325 degrees. Mix the remaining cup of confectioners with sugar and 3 tbsp of Orange juice. Put wax paper under cookies and spoon the orange glaze over them.
