Ginseng

Ginseng – North American/panax ginseng, Oriental/panax quinquefolium – roots older than two years are a famous yang stimulant, North American less so than Oriental. Rather than treating specific problems, Ginseng strengthens the body by increasing the efficiency of the endocrine, metabolic, circulatory, and digestive systems. Topically, goldenrod relieves insect bites, aids the healing of wounds, eczema, ulcers etc.

Goldenseal – hydrastis canadensis – this root is an anti-inflammatory, immune booster and antibiotic. The natural antibiotic properties of goldenseal make it a much used first line of defense for colds, flu, and sore throats. This herb is also used to treat yeast infections, relieve heavy menstrual flow and to slow heavy bleeding after childbirth.

Goosefoot – chenopodium glaucum – the leaves and sees of this plant are somewhat edible although ingestion might aggravate rheumatism, gout, and arthritis.

Greek Oregano – origanum vulgaris hirtum – a much used herb in Mediterranean cooking. A very antiseptic herb.
